Transference is the inappropriate repetition in the present of a relationship that was important in a person's childhood. It creates an emotional time warp that transfers the emotional past into the present. THE SOURCE
Once, I was hijacked. When the past invades the present, there are no reassuring boundaries anymore, nothing to mark here from there or now from then. There's a sudden emotional shift, dislocation, followed by disturbance.
I needed to explain what was in front of me, but what was there inevitably involved what was not there. Absence and presence always combined.
The horizon is important and seductive, distance counts. There’s something out there, beyond the centre of vision, on the periphery, demanding attention. Click.
I wasn't illustrating an idea or playing with form; I wasn’t trying to say anything, I was trying to capture a state. Flown from place to place, like any tourist, I had a camera. These were my first snapshots.
